On Monday December 8th, 2025, the Base Line of the Thessaloniki Metro will be recommissioned. This decision was made during the meeting held today between the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation Nikolaos Tachiaos, the Chief Executive Officer of ELLINIKO METRO S.A. Nikolaos Kouretas, representatives of THEMA, the Company responsible for the Operation and Maintenance of the Thessaloniki Metro, and the construction contractors at Thessaloniki Metro Depot.
The recommissioning of the Base Line, three days earlier than the date originally scheduled, was made possible due to the successful and speediest completion of the first major round of systems’ and trains’ tests, carried out on the entire network, including the extension to Kalamaria.
Even though the tests will be continued after the recommissioning of the Base Line, it was decided that the Metro will operate based on a full-time service during the Christmas holidays to ensure better passenger services and smooth transportation in the city.
In the framework of the gradual progress of the tests in the Metro Extension to Kalamaria, the Base Line Timetable shall be adjusted in line with the following:
Timetable: Monday 08/12 – Saturday 20/12/2025 (inclusive)

ELLINIKO METRO S.A., the construction contractors and THEMA work in due consistency towards the full completion and integration of the Extension to Kalamaria into the Metro network, ensuring at the same time, safe operation of the Base Line.
