{"id":19659,"date":"2010-06-11T07:32:15","date_gmt":"2010-06-11T04:32:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.emetro.gr\/?p=5085&#038;lang=en"},"modified":"2024-07-03T10:44:16","modified_gmt":"2024-07-03T07:44:16","slug":"athens-metro-art-journeys-in-the-metro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.emetro.gr\/?p=19659&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"ATHENS METRO &#8211; Art Journeys in the Metro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Attiko Metro S.A. successfully incorporated art in citizens\u2019 every-day life \u2013 for the first time ever in a public project \u2013 by displaying <strong>30 contemporary works of art of reputable Greek artists<\/strong>, which embellish Athens Metro Stations.<br \/>\nAttiko Metro Art Program is evolving through new works of art displayed in both the existing Metro Stations and the new Stations currently under construction in the cities of Athens and Thessaloniki.<br \/>\nThree new works of art are exhibited in the framework of this Art Program at <strong>HALANDRI Station (artist: Rena Papaspyrou), AGHIOS DIMITRIOS Station (artist: Kostas Iraklis Georgiou) and MONASTIRAKI Station (artist: Lida Papakonstantinou).<\/strong><br \/>\nMore specifically, at HALANDRI Station, the work of art \u201cIkones stin Yli\u201d (Pictures on Matter), created by Rena Papaspyrou, occupies a surface of 10.2 m. (width) x 2.7 m. (height) and is full of images familiar and unexpected at the same time. The mosaic tiles used in this work of art were processed in autumn 2009; Rena Papaspyrou incorporated therein her favorite design patterns dating back to \u201890-\u201894 (see attached photo).<br \/>\nAt AGHIOS DIMITRIOS Station, artist Kostas Iraklis Georgiou created a work of art \u201cin memory of Alexandros Panagoulis\u201d as least tribute to Alexandros Panagoulis in recognition of his great offer to the country. This work of art encircles the elevator at the station platforms and consists of various plexiglass pieces forming the portrait of Alexandros Panagoulis (see attached photo).<br \/>\nAt MONASTIRAKI Station, the work of art \u201cChronos sta Heria mou\u201d (Time in my Hands) created by artist Lida Papakonstantinou is developed on almost the entire surface of the station roof, occupying, thus, 134 m2 (see attached photo).
