Based on special designs prepared by ATTIKO METRO the complicated technical issue related to the construction of AGHIA PARASKEVI Station was addressed with the concurrent demolition of Line 3 tunnel, which is currently in operation. The problem arose since the shell of the Station had not been constructed at the aforementioned station in the past. The bidding companies/consortia will submit their financial offer including technical solutions in order to reduce to the minimum the time of interruption of the metro network operation at the said section.
The Tender is expected to be completed by the end of 2006, provided that there are no entanglements due to objections; in the early 2007 construction works at the three Stations of Metro Line 3 will commence. NOMISMATOKOPIO Station is provided for to be commissioned late 2007, while HOLARGOS & AGHIA PARASKEVI Stations will be commissioned throughout 2008.
At the same time, a car park facility with a capacity of 470 places, as well as a Transfer Station to and from the bus lines will be constructed to serve the transportation needs of the residents of the north and northeast suburbs of Athens at NOMISMATOKOPIO Station.
The benefits from the Athens Metro operation are evident at each Municipality of Attica basin, since suffice to bear in mind that it currently takes at least 45 minutes to cover the distance Nomismatokopio – Syntagma by car in peak hour, while by Metro the same distance will be covered in a comfortable, safe and rapid way in only 10 minutes”.
